Upper endoscopy is a commonly performed procedure designed to examine the upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The upper GI tract consists of the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum (the first foot of the 22-foot long small intestine). Upper endoscopy is also known as esophago-gastro-duodenoscopy, which is commonly referred to as an EGD. This procedure is done to examine, diagnose, or treat conditions such as: inflammations of the esophagus (esophagitis), Barrett’s esophagus (intestinal lining of the esophagus instead of the usual esophageal lining), hiatal hernias, strictures, rings or tumors of the esophagus, stomach, or duodenum, or ulcers of the stomach or duodenum.
Colonoscopy is a commonly performed procedure used to diagnose and treat disorders of the colon. It is frequently used to screen the adult population over age 40 for pre-cancerous polyps or asymptomatic cancers (that means without an obvious sign or symptom of the disease). Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S. It occurs equally in men and women. It is believed that the detection and removal of pre-cancerous polyps will prevent colon cancer and the detection and removal of early asymptomatic colon cancers will reduce mortality from this disease.
Over half of all adults in the U.S. will get hemorrhoids before the age of 50. Despite this fact, many people struggle to recognize the symptoms of hemorrhoids and often people are uncomfortable asking for help in seeking a hemorrhoid treatment that will work for them. We try to communicate that it is important to seek help from our trained physicians before your condition worsens. When hemorrhoids are treated early by a gastroenterologist, they can removed painlessly in a matter of minutes. We offer effective, fast, and painless treatment.
Fibroscan is a non-invasive test that helps assess the health of your liver. Specifically, it uses ultrasound technology to determine the degree of fibrosis or scarring that may be present in your liver from various liver diseases or conditions. This information is then used by your gastroenterologist to individualize and optimize your treatment plan. For some patients, Fibroscan can replace liver biopsy. FibroScan test results are used in conjunction with other clinical data, laboratory test results, and liver imaging in managing individual patients.
